keine ahnung, ob das hier schon wo steht, mein englisch ist nach wie vor nicht das beste
Hi all,
Forgive the impersonal touch of a bulletin but it's been a little while since I sent out some words to you to let you know what's been happening and what's up and coming and I wasn't sure who reads the blogs and who doesn't. I'll post this as a blog so you can read it again if needed. In the meantime, read on...
The last time I said a hi to all newcomers was when we almost fell over seeing that we'd hit 8000 or so friends. Here we are now with 18,500 and counting. If we haven't said so before then, we're very happy and honoured to have you all. Welcome to all those who joined since!
I do want to apologise for the fact that there was a while there, late last year, that the account wasn't maintained and friend requests weren't being accepted. The person over here, that I'd charged with maintaining the page, had neglected to do so for a couple of months. As a result I stepped back in. I do apologise sincerely for that. As you can imagine, things can get extremely busy with all the work we have to do and this didn't leave us a lot of time for the Myspace page, hence my need to ask someone to handle if for me for a while. In any case, things are back to normal and I hope this wasn't too much of an inconvenience.
The problem with the Myspace player on our profile has been sorted out. I contacted the Myspace tech support and as they didn't get back to me I took matters into my own hands, deleted the songs and re-uploaded them. It seems to have worked. I hope this doesn't affect any of the mini players people have on their pages. Those who chose to have Entropy on their pages will be disappointed as I opted to replace it with Perpetual owing to the demand for it.
Many have written to us asking if we read the messages, we do indeed. I'm sure you can imagine that we do get a lot of them and still have some 60 pages of messages of backlog to get through. We do try to answer where possible but we do get a lot of messages and there just isn't enough time to answer everyone. In lieu of that, I thought it better to answer questions frequently people pose via this bulletin.
The most asked question is if we're going to be touring again and when we're coming back to North America. The simple answer to that is that it would take a lot to keep us from touring. As soon as the next album is out we'll be touring to coincide with it. We plan to start work on the next album in June of this year. There are some other releases to finish first. Before that we're playing a few festivals here and there but keeping most of the time free to work on new VNV songs.
The next most asked question is when we are releasing Homeward. There's been some deliberation about this. Since starting our own label in 2003 we've excercised our opinion that we don't like conventional singles. We like the "something for everyone" approach rather than the "4 mixes of the same song and a b-side" way of doing things. What we've decided to do is pack together what we'd intended to be the Homeward single with all the Chrome remixes and some unreleased tracks to make it much more worthwhile for our fans. A lot of people have heard the SITD mix of Chrome in clubs and asked when it's coming out on CD. It will be on there. I also took the opportunity to do a version of Homeward with a real string quartet for this, something I've wanted to do for a long time. If you're hoping for something edgier than a "tea and cucumber sandwiches" version, then don't worry. We're hoping there'll be something for everyone on there. For those fans who wondered whatever happened to the song "still waters", it's definitely going to be included. Some mixes for Homeward are currently being worked on by other artists so once all is finished we'll be getting it ready to release it.
So, what's next.
There is another VNV release in the works that we're calling "Reformation". More on that in the near future.
One of the most exciting pieces of news is that we'll be writing the original soundtrack for the movie Gene Generation. It's a sci-fi movie that has all the right elements for fans of Manga and dark future films like Blade Runner and the Matrix. I'm really happy to finally have the chance to work on a movie and am very excited about working on Gene Generation. Having gotten to know the people involved with this one, I have no doubt that it's going to be a very creative experience.
AFI's new album is planned for a June release, last we heard. For those of you who read the website you'll know that I did some production work for 2 of the tracks on the album. We like the band a lot, both musically and as a great bunch of people, so working with them to provide some electronic elements was a great experience.
For those of you planning to visit the Wave Gothic Treffen in Leipzig this year, there are a few events to keep in mind. On the Saturday night, VNV Nation will play as the headline act in the Agre Halle. If you're arriving at the festival on the Thursday before and have nothing to do once you've found your hotel or gotten your tent up, I'll be doing my first ever show as my sideproject Modcom at the Thursday night warm up party in the Mortiz Bastei. On Sunday night we'll be doing a DJ set at the after festival party in the main Agre halle.
We've a few other festival and one-off shows in the coming months. You'll find dates and links and whatnot on the VNV Homepage (address below). If you're from North America and are planning on a European visit then why not try to coincide it with one of the VNV Nation shows. We'd love to see you there.
I'll leave it there before this turns into a book.
best wishes to all,
Ronan
